A Writing Workshop with Judges and Practitioners
Presented by the Milwaukee Bar Association in partnership with the Seventh Circuit Bar Association and the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association

The power of the pen is perhaps the most essential ingredient to a successful litigation practice. From the first complaint to the last appellate brief, your client’s legal rights will depend both on the legal arguments you develop and your ability to present those arguments persuasively in written form. In this writing workshop, we will hear from accomplished litigators and the judges they practice in front of, as they explore the art of legal writing. They will discuss what makes legal writing effective, note common pitfalls, and offer tips for effective written advocacy. The panel will be moderated by Caleb Gerbitz of Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols SC and will feature the following panelists:

  • Judge William C. Griesbach, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin
  • Justice Brian K. Hagedorn, Wisconsin Supreme Court
  • Professor Anne Berleman Kearney, Marquette University Law School
  • Attorney James Goldschmidt, Quarles & Brady LLP
