Presenter:  Sarah Sargent, Godfrey & Kahn, S.C.

It seems today nearly every product we touch can connect to the internet: our cars, washing machines, thermostats, watches, and much more. This phenomenon of connecting everyday items to the internet is referred to as the Internet of Things or IoT.  As IoT offerings become more prevalent in various industries for the first time, lawyers can add significant value to our clients by addressing some of the risks unique to the IoT.  In this presentation, we will discuss various legal issues that arise in IoT product offerings, including privacy, cybersecurity, contract structure, and data ownership.  We will also cover best practices for mitigating certain risks that come along with IoT products.
