Part 1

Domestic Violence:  Can Women be Perpetrators?  Can Men be Victims?

George Saxton, Jewish Family Services

Those who work in the Domestic Violence  (DV) traditionally focus on male violence against female partners - and rightfully so. The majority of people arrested and prosecuted for DV in the US are males who have female victims. However, there has been an increasing awareness of situations where females are accused of DV against male partners. While female on male violence is still in the minority, the recognition that this is a problem has resulted in programming that addresses both male and female perpetrators. Our discussion will explore the inherent biases we have about recognizing and/or downplaying domestic violence by women against men. We will discuss the particular perspective of those who study and address this issue.

Part 2

Hon. Marshall Murray, Milwaukee County Circuit Court
